About Us

Thank you for your interest in Foggy Bottom Alpacas.   Founded in 2008, Foggy Bottom is home to over 40 Huacayas, mostly breeding females and a select few herdsires.  Our commitment to this exciting industry is to operate our business professionally and ethically and to actively promote the combination of breeding and fiber product development as a legitimate business model.

We are a family operation located on 20 rolling acres in Isanti County, one hour north of the Twin Cities, conveniently located close to major cities and highways.  We welcome your inquiries and invite you to visit our farm anytime…..get to know us and allow us to get to know you:

Barb and Mark Bender each had successful businesses in the “corporate” world, and even today continue to straddle the fence a bit:

Barb began her career as a registered nurse, eventually moving to the business side of health care where she has remained for over 30 years. Today, she works in Owatonna with South Country Health Alliance, a county-based health plan serving recipients of government programs.  The drive is quite a trek each day, for sure, but "a drive through beautiful parts of our state".

Mark owned and operated a mid-size offset printing company for 32 years, located in St. Paul, MN before selling the company to launch his print sales business. Today Mark maintains a successful print-brokering business which occupies about half of his time enabling him to dedicate the rest of his time to Foggy Bottom.

We've been fortunate to have Sara Bender manage our herd through the last 5 years.  Sara is owner of Over the Rainbow Alpaca Ranch, home to 50+ Breeding males and females, and continues to improve her herd and become one of the top, elite breeding farms in the state.
